Big Water is one of the few remaining places where a family can really feel like they are getting away from it all, with more than 35 acres of land and hundreds of feet of Georgian Bay shoreline to call their own during their stay. Located just north of Meaford, Ontario, Big Water is closer than you'd think and more beautiful than you could imagine. It's hard to pick a feature that is the highlight of this cottage. One might make an argument for the water itself - a shoreline that winds for hundreds of feet on either side of the cottage. The rocks and stones of the bay may sing with the splashing of waves on windy days or appear like a tile mosaic when the lake is as calm as glass. Anglers in the group will commune with the lake regularly in search of the trout, bass and salmon that await. The water deepens gradually and is fine for swimming, although we do recommend you bring footwear suited to the task. A pair of kayaks lets you explore the shoreline further when the lake is calm. Once the skies have darkened, be sure to turn your eyes skyward and enjoy the thousands of stars that you will never, ever see from the city. If the lake isn't your thing, maybe it's the trees and trails. Big Water boasts about 38 acres of private forested area for your delight. There is a series of trails that run through the property that make exploring fun for all ages. Did we mention that a river runs through the property as well? Depending on the time of year and the amount of rainfall, the river may meander grandly through the area or take the appearance of a gently trickling creek. Kids will delight in searching for frogs, newts, butterflies and other wildlife. It flows into a pond for fishing as well. So often we have pet owners looking for a place where they and their dogs have room to run - this is it! Still on the fence? Let's go inside. Big Water is a most traditional Ontario cottage, completely finished throughout in wood and log construction. A generous foyer greets you upon arrival and with a couch and a nice view of the trees and doubles as a quiet retreat for someone who'd like to curl up with a book and a coffee. Past the foyer you will find the open concept kitchen and dining areas. The kitchen is well equipped, including a dishwasher so you aren't spending your time at the sink. There is a larger dining table for your entire group and a smaller table and chairs for snacks or a game of Scrabble. The entire area looks out over the patio to the bay, offering delightful views and some of the best sunsets on the planet. Off to one side you will find the living room. This is generous in size and is a great place for all to gather in evenings and inclement weather. Here you will find comfy couches, corner windows offering more wonderful water and forest views, an entertainment system for music and movie watching (the TV is not satellite but you will not miss it here). If you are at Big Water in colder times, there is a fireplace here to warm up and enjoy some coffee or other beverage of choice. Oh, and did we mention that Big Water has an ice cream maker AND a popcorm maker? The bedrooms are on the other side of the cottage, and two of the 3 are on the water side, offering lake breezes and the sounds of the surf to lull you to sleep after your day. The children's room has a pair of twin bunks, the spot for siblings and cousins or friends to rehash the day's adventure. This is the spot for families that want a true getaway, but if you find yourself missing civilization, it is not terribly far away. Owen Sound is about 15 minutes away and provides all items you might need from a city, including restaurants and attractions for a day on the town. Collingwood is less than an hour away, offering 4-season fun. In closing we'll just happen to leak the fact that there is an award winning winery just 2 km away.
